Coating
Universal’s range of automatic coating machines include various versions of vacuum systems, spraying machines,
roller coaters and curtain coaters.
Vacuum Application
All of the vacuum coating systems deliver the following key advantages;-
1. 100% Transfer Efficiency – No coating waste
2. Ability to coat 3 or all 4 sides of components in one pass
3. Simple to achieve even and consistent coating weights
4. Compact and Totally Enclosed Design
The Easi-Clean series of vacuum coating machines is the second generation of vacuum coating machines, offering much improved access for the operator, which makes cleaning much easier and quicker than the earlier machines. Optional teflon coating of the machines improves this yet further.
Universal offers a variety of standard throughfeed vacuum coating machines, such as the MINI-VAC or the larger SUPA-VAC as well as special machines such as the ULTRA-VAC for high speed production lines and the EDGEVAC which is used for coating the edges of panels.
The vacuum pressure which regulates the coating thickness is monitored and displayed via a guage fitted to the front of the machine. Pressure can be adjusted by opening or closing a pressure release valve or alternatively, by adjusting the frequency of the vacuum pump motor(s).
Each vacuum coating system is supplied as a stand-alone unit, without any in-line machines. Depending on the application, customers may choose to position in-line conveyors, profile sanding machines and drying / curing systems. We will advise each customer on the optimum arrangement for
Automatic Spraying
Universal also offer automatic linear spraying machines,
which give a high degree of flexibility in the variety
of coatings that can be applied. These machines consist
of an integrated infeed and outfeed conveyor, an enclosed
spraying cabin, in which a series automatic spray guns
are mounted and the overspray recovery bin is located,
and finally an extraction system with in line filtration.

Other Coating Systems
Universal also co-operate with a series of well-respected European partner companies, so that
they can offer other coating systems such as roller coaters, curtain coaters and flow-coaters.

The picture shows a MINI-VAC vacuum coating system, which is used for applying waterbased or UV curable coatings on components up to 150mm wide. The machine is manufactured from stainless steel and in this instance includes a powered belt infeed conveyor and powered outfeed roller conveyor. Here it is being used for applying a stain on to door frame components.

This is a photograph of a SUPA-VAC
vacuum coating system, which is capable of coating
components up to 300mm wide at speeds up to 80 m/min.
This machine has the optional teflon coating fitted
to make cleaning easy and it is placed in-line with
a belt infeed conveyor and Gas Infra-Red Drying System.

In addition to the standard throughfeed vacuum coating systems for coating mouldings and profiled components, we offer the EDGEVAC system for coating only the edges of parts. This system can be used for coating either the edges of wide panels, or sealing the tongue and groove on narrower components.
